Sheet Metal Processing Dimensions

Time:2026-03-27 Views:0 source:CNC Machining customization source:CNC Machining news

Sheet metal processing dimensions are a key factor determining the accuracy, fit, and functionality of sheet metal products. The dimensional requirements of sheet metal parts are usually specified in the design drawings, including length, width, thickness, hole position, hole diameter, bending angle, and other key dimensions. Ensuring the accuracy of these dimensions is essential to ensure that the sheet metal parts can be assembled correctly with other components, meet the functional requirements of the product, and avoid assembly errors and performance failures. Sheet metal processing dimensional accuracy is affected by many factors, including the accuracy of the processing equipment, the skill level of the operator, the material properties, the processing method, and the environmental conditions during processing.

The thickness of the sheet metal is one of the most basic dimensional parameters, which directly affects the strength, rigidity, and weight of the product. Common sheet metal thickness ranges from 0.1mm to 20mm, and the thickness tolerance is usually controlled within ±0.05mm to ±0.5mm, depending on the material and processing requirements. For example, thin sheet metal (less than 1mm) is often used for electronic casings and precision parts, requiring high thickness accuracy to ensure the fit and appearance; thick sheet metal (more than 5mm) is used for structural components and heavy-duty equipment, requiring higher strength and thickness uniformity. The length and width of the sheet metal are usually processed by shearing, laser cutting, or plasma cutting, and the dimensional accuracy is controlled within ±0.1mm to ±0.3mm for precision parts. Laser cutting, in particular, has high cutting accuracy, narrow cutting width, and smooth cutting surface, making it suitable for processing sheet metal parts with high dimensional requirements.

In addition to length, width, and thickness, the dimensional accuracy of holes and bending angles is also crucial in sheet metal processing. Hole position accuracy is usually controlled within ±0.1mm to ±0.2mm, and hole diameter tolerance is within ±0.05mm to ±0.1mm, to ensure that fasteners such as screws and bolts can be installed smoothly and tightly. Bending angle accuracy is another key parameter, usually controlled within ±1° to ±2°, to ensure that the sheet metal part can be folded into the required shape and fit with other components. The bending radius, which is the radius of the curved part after bending, also needs to be strictly controlled according to the design requirements, as it affects the strength and appearance of the bent part. To ensure the accuracy of sheet metal processing dimensions, it is necessary to use high-precision processing equipment, such as CNC shearing machines, CNC laser cutting machines, and CNC bending machines, and conduct strict dimensional inspection during and after processing. Common inspection tools include calipers, micrometers, rulers, angle gauges, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM), which can accurately measure various dimensions and ensure that the sheet metal parts meet the design standards. In addition, reasonable processing technology and process parameters should be formulated to reduce the impact of material deformation, equipment error, and operator operation on dimensional accuracy.
